The cat has been finally let out of the bag. This happened at Zurmi in Zamfara State. The story is contained in the report in the following link:
The story in this link is sequel to a cattle-related killing event reported earlier: the Massacre of 74 in Zamfara. The following link contains that story:
The first revelation was actually from the Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum and Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari, which is that the disappointment in Buhari is wider than imagined. He said, inter alia:
“I feel let down facing the people of this state whenever I remember the promise I made to them that if they elected President Muhammadu Buhari into power, these killings would end. But unfortunately, things are now getting worse”.
The interest here, and really very important, is in the revelations from the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar:
- That for the bravery of vigilante groups who confronted the bandits, more people would have been killed – – – 600 bandits had attempted to invade Zurmi during the Thursday attack before they were repelled by vigilantes
FR: This is the established modus operandi in Counter Terrorism, as seen with the Civilian JTF in the North East, and it has been very useful against Boko Haram. Call it vigilante, JTF, whatever, the usefulness is not in doubt. But it is obvious the Police and the Federal authorities are waiting in the wings to brand whatever is to be formed in Benue State “illegal militia”.
The Defense Minister has already said Benue State had AK47-carrying militias, who were among the killers of that day. He is right but how did he know that since his allegation was independent of the report of the Livestock Guard survivor who saw another Livestock Guard with AK47 gun among the marauders. Obviously, their ranks had been infiltrated by under-cover killers.
Perhaps Governor Samuel Ortom armed the Livestock Guards with AK47 rifles, as Defense Minister claimed, to kill his own Livestock Guards and Benue people. His allegation that Benue State armed Livestock Guards with AK47 rifles was clearly false and so it is suspicious how he knew that AK47-carrying Livestock Guards were among the killers , as he reported.
- “They came on 200 motorcycles with three persons on each bike. Each of them was well-armed. We stationed 500 vigilante members who stood their ground and gallantly fought the bandits
FR: This is the desired result of good self-defense architecture. Why should this not be the arrangement in Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Southern-Kaduna etc. My fear is what will happen if these states do similar arrangements to defend themselves especially as theirs would be against killer herdsmen and not against cattle rustlers as in Zamfara.
Cattle must be protected at all costs, not human beings, and so, such formidable defense cannot be directed at murderous herdsmen but to cattle rustlers. No matter how evil these herdsmen are, they must be protected at all costs, as we see, using the Police, the Presidency and the national defense system, all seemingly owned by a nameless, faceless, elite cabal that are orchestrating the mayhem using the killer herdsmen.
They had it well planned out from the beginning – in this essentially unitary system of government where the cabal owns the Presidency and has maneuvered all strategic institutions, Military, Police, DSS, NIA, Customs, Immigration, Civil Defense, EFCC, Justice, etc., to their control and the afflicted state governments are powerless. We all saw how they openly ridiculed Governor Samuel Ortom for making a law he did not have the power to implement. Restructuring Nigeria into a true federation is the ultimate answer to this madness.
Another tragedy is that Fulanis are, unfortunately, now stigmatized. Stigmatization of Fulani, following the actions of sponsored marauding Fulani Herdsmen gang doing senseless brutal killings in the country and engineered by this Cabal that armed them with sophisticated weapons, is gradually generating thoughts that every Fulani has that murderous mentality. This is very unfortunate as millions of ordinary Fulani people are peaceful and kind.
- “These terrorists are known to us. Their major hideout is in a village called Kagara, very close to Bafarawa in Sokoto State, and a few kilometers from Shinkafi in Zamfara State. But despite several appeals to security agencies to storm the area, our appeals have failed”
FR: This is exactly similar to the situation clearly described by Governor Samuel Ortom in the case of Benue State. Will they do something about it this time?
- “I need to state here that majority of the weapons used by bad people in this country are brought in from this area”
FR: Topmost level security report. The source of the weapons is now known. What next?
- “I had reason to personally inform Zamfara State’s Director of the Department of State Services sometime back of a large cache of weapons being brought into the country but no concrete action was taken until the containers were moved away.”
FR: Is it already too late? It can only be more difficult and not too late for an intelligent professional security outfit. Here is a huge lead. Excuses are not acceptable.
A word of advice from Gov. Yari:
“As such, I urge you security agencies to up the ante so as not to lose this war. If you let us put the matter in our hands, anarchy will reign, which is not what we hope for”.
